Hana no Kanmuri (SP) (J-Drama) (2012)

High school student Hirai Sakura (Nakagawa Taishi) grapples with the remarriage of his mother, Junko (Saito Yuki). She has already had two failed marriages. Then Shiho (Renbutsu Misako), the daughter of Junko’s ex-husband, Oba Ichiro (Mashima Hidekazu), suddenly appears on their doorstep. Oba’s condition at the time of their divorce 7 years ago, was that he would have Shiho. Junko and Sakura were forced to leave Shiho behind, crying as they left her. A cheerful Shiho, now 20, says she has decided to go to England to study and has come to greet Junko and Sakura before she leaves. Bewildered by the reunion with his step sister after 8 years when they had been a family for only 6 years, Sakura agonises over how to treat her. However, Shiho and Junko talk freely with each other with scarcely a glance at him, as if trying to make up for lost time. It is at that time that Sakura’s career counselling was scheduled to take place but Junko is unable to attend because of work. And so, Shiho, appears at the session on her behalf. Sakura’s dream is to become a teacher. However, he gives up further studies when he learns that the family cannot afford it. Junko’s new partner, Akino Yasushi (Yashiba Toshihiro) says that he will pay for Sakura’s school fees but Sakura continues to refuse. The trauma of Oba’s mistreatment and separation from Shiho makes it difficult for him to accept Akino as his new father. At the career counselling, Sakura intends to say that he wishes to find employment. However, Shiho tells the teacher in charge that they will send Sakura to college. Furious that it did not go according to his wishes, Sakura lashes out at Shiho. A hurt Shiho leaves Sakura. Shiho and Sakura had once been abused by Oba.
